The 2017 NSW Junior Championships were played at Toukley and Shelley Beach from Tuesday 4/7/17 to Friday 7/7/17. Half the field played at each course on Tuesday then swapped over to play the other course on Wednesday. A cut was made after 36 holes and the leaders played their last two days at Toukley for the Championship and Cup events whilst the remainder of players completed their 72 holes at Shelley Beach in the Plate events.
Toukley stars, Annika Boyd and Keegan Phillips made the cut to play at Toukley over the last two days. Annika finished strongly with rounds of 73 and 76 to give her a 72 hole scratch total of 308. This placed her 2nd in the 15 years girls group and a very creditable 11th place in the overall Championship. Keegan returned a 72 hole score of 331 off the stick for a high finish of 10th in the 14 years boys division.
Playing at Shelley Beach over the last two days in the Plate event, rising star Josh Hawkshaw returned a 72 hole nett score of 296 to win the 12 years nett plate. This is a fantastic effort as Josh is only 10 years old! Noah Miller also had a great tournament to finish with 297 nett a take second placing in the 14 years boys’ nett plate. Toukley were also well represented at both courses by Dylan Moore, Nathan Spierings and Will Denniss.
Players came from all over Australia and New Zealand to contest the Championship. The overall boys Champion was Queensland player, Jed Morgan returning an incredible 11 under par for the 72 holes for a comfortable 14 shot victory. The girls Championship went to Avondale player, June Song who finished 7 under par to win by 3 shots. Full results can be viewed on the JNJGF website.
Great scoring at Toukley over the four days showed the course was presented in fantastic condition by our hardworking greens staff. The Committee would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers, organisers and staff for enabling a very successful Championship at Toukley.
