Welcome to the August 2021 edition of the Toukley Golf Club monthly Captain’s report.

Tee Bookings

As stated in last month’s report the reduced available tee times has resulted in some members missing out on their preferred tee time. It is important to place your name on the reserve list if you miss out on a tee booking on any day as this will ensure priority for any tee time made available due to cancellations. As we gain more daylight extra tee times will be made available for play.

I would like to appeal to members who are currently playing on more occasions than they normally would to possibly reduce the number of days they play to make tee times available for their fellow members who are regularly missing out. It should be noted other clubs are restricting their members to a limited number of games per week so as all members have an opportunity to play. The Match Committee is reluctant at this stage to implement this policy at Toukley, but there may be no other option if the problem persists.

The Board apologises for any inconvenience and appreciates the ongoing understanding of members during these difficult times.

Competitions

Commencing August the Jade course will be used for Monday competitions on one day a month. The Orange competition will follow the published program. This will reduce wear on the tee boxes as the number of rounds played at Toukley has increased dramatically.

A reminder that prize vouchers can be redeemed at the Half-way house and balls may be collected as usual from the Pro shop. Members are advised to make themselves familiar with the updated COVID-19 golfing safety plan and Temporary Local Rules, of which a copy is available from the Pro Shop and is also posted on the local rules board outside the Pro shop.

The Toukley annual program has been postponed for the foreseeable future and hopefully can be rescheduled with members notified of a resumption.

Rule of the Month

One of the changes in the new rules was the treatment of a ball in motion accidently hitting a person or their equipment. Rule 11.1a states:

“If a players ball in motion accidentally hits any person or outside influence:

  • There is no penalty to any player.
  • This is true if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or their equipment.”

This effectively means there is no longer any penalty if after playing a stroke the ball accidentally hits you or your partner, so long as it is accidental.

Regards and good golfing,

Jack Boardman, Club Captain, for and on behalf of the Match committee.
