Today’s event was a Stableford/3rd District Brooch/3rd Vets but due to the very inclement weather (understatement!) only 8 hardy souls tested their skills on a very wet, soggy course.  Surprisingly the greens remained fast and true, except the 18th where there were a few plugged balls.  It was tee up through the green so we all had extra driving practice.  Kerrie Johnman came home with 32 points and Laraine Drew had 30 points.  However we were all equal winners, just having survived the 18 holes and were rewarded with a ball each.

It all got a little hairy on the 18th hole when Laraine just missed Kerrie with her shot to the green.  Kerrie managed a very quick side step to avoid Laraine’s missile.  Unfortunately it must have upset Laraine a bit because shortly thereafter she sent her buggy and bag into the 18th bunker.  It did provide us with a good laugh and we all managed to scramble up the hill intact.  And a good day was had by all.

Rule of the week  –  following the disaster at the Ladies ANA LPGA tournament this week just gone, I thought it might be a timely reminder about the two rules that were broken in Lexi Thompson’s 3rd round, resulting in a 4 shot penalty and ultimately in her losing the tournament.  The first rule she broke was that she did not replace her ball in the same place as she had marked it, (2 shot penalty), (Rule 20-1a – Ïf a ball to be replaced is placed other than on the spot from which it was lifted or moved and the error is not corrected as provided in Rule 20-6, the player incurs the general penalty, loss of hole in match play or two strokes in stroke play, for a breach of the applicable Rule) and then she (unknowingly) signed for an incorrect score card (another 2 shot penalty) (Rule 6-d “Wrong Score for Hole”).  A very costly mistake and two rules that need serious attention.

There is a Ladies Open Day at Pacific Dunes on 4th May with a 9.00 am shotgun start.  4 Person team event – split 6’s.$43 pp includes green fee, comp & lunch + $15 pp cart hire (optional).  Closing day with money 27th April.  Unfortunately this coincides with the delayed Wyong Classic.  Please let Laraine Drew know if you are interested.
