Profiling – GWENDA HOLLAND  /  by Bec Lewis | Mar 22, 2017 | Ladies

Gwenda Holland

This is the first of our member profiles with a view to “Getting to know your fellow golfers“. Gwenda provided the following information about herself.

“Hello Ladies,

My name is Gwenda Holland. For those who don’t know me, I am the “tall blonde”, you can’t miss me.

I started to play golf in 1987 with my late husband, along with Kate and Matt McKinnon. I remember that someone in our group said “don’t walk on my line”, so I was looking for a marked line on the green. It wasn’t there, how was I supposed to see it?

I played 18 holes with the ladies on Tuesdays and also joined a 9 hole comp which was run by Glen Davis on Thursdays. Eventually I had to give up playing 18 holes due to health reasons. I took over the 9 hole comp when Glen passed away in 2003. We started with 12 members and now we have over 50 ladies on the books. Kath Pitcher also started a 9 hole comp on Tuesdays for the ladies who couldn’t manage the 18.

I have played golf on many courses, met very nice people and in my opinion you couldn’t meet a better bunch of people than the Toukley Ladies.

Good golfing,

Gwenda is a well-respected and much loved member of our Ladies’ membership. When discussing the topic of who to profile first with the committee, Gwenda’s name came up unanimously, which is a very good sign of the high esteem in which she is held.

She continues to be supportive in many ways, including bringing her grandsons to golf and encouraging them to be part of our wonderful club. Her grandson Noah started playing at Toukley when he was 10. He is now 13 and is part of the junior pennants team and also attends the Central Coast Golf Academy. Her younger grandson Brock who is now 10 is also a Toukley member and both the boys play in the men’s competition regularly. Her son-in-law, Scott Miller is also a member of Toukley Golf Club.

Gwenda is a valued and bubbly member of our club and we wish her continued success and happiness in her chosen sport for many years to come. Go and say “hello” to Gwenda on most Tuesdays or maybe join her 9 hole competition on Thursdays, I am sure she would make you feel very welcome.
