Toukley Win Sterland Shield 6 Years In a Row

Toukley have won the prestigious CCDGA Sterland Shield for the sixth year in a row as the District’s strongest overall club.

In B grade, Toukley won a strong division with 12 competition points and 16 matches to put them in the final against the Breakers (Terrigal). In C grade, Toukley again battled strong competition to finish tied on 10 competition points but missed the final as Wyong had accumulated more match points ( Wyong 15.5, Toukley 12). Our junior team put up a strong effort to finish tied with Everglades on top of the points ladder with 7 points and their 20 match points made them the top seed for the final. Our A grade side comfortably won their division, finishing with 14 competition points and 38.5 match points to put them in the final against Shelley Beach.

The Junior final against Everglades at Shelley Beach on Saturday 2/4/16 proved a close contest with all matches reaching the 17th hole or further. Everglades held a 3 to 1 lead but the last two matches went to extra holes. Annika Boyd unfortunately lost on the 19th hole after her opponent sunk an incredible putt under intense pressure. This gave the win to Everglades 4 ½ to 1 ½ after the last match was halved. District officials commented on the outstanding ability and sportsmanship displayed by both teams.

Our A and B grade teams faced off against Shelley Beach and The Breakers respectively, in the finals at Morisset on Sunday 3/4/16. In A grade, the Shelley Beach middle order proved too strong and gave them a 4 to 3 victory despite a comfortable 6&5 victory by Dave Willett. Our A graders put in an outstanding effort to narrowly miss winning the pennant for the third year in a row. The news was better from our B graders as the first two matches came to Toukley to ensure the pennant win. The final result was a win to Toukley 2 to 1. Bruce Davidson received an early nomination as player of the series for his outstanding form. I am sure the other Clubs will enjoy a stirring rendition of our “Toukley Oukley” song at the District Presentation night by our B Grade team!

The overall performance saw Toukley retain the Sterland Shield as the strongest overall Club in the District for the sixth year in a row. The Committee would like to thank all the players, managers and supporters for a great effort in continuing Toukley’s reign as the premier CCDGA club.
