The 2016 Men’s Match play Championships were finalised on Sunday 20th November with Club Champion, Brent White playing brilliant golf to defeat a gallant Chez Tonelli at the 15th hole to win the A Grade Match play Championship. Chez had sterling wins in the preliminary rounds over Bob Luke and Sean McDonagh, but faced a daunting task in the final against Brent, the new stroke play champion who consistently betters his minus 2 handicap. Chez played superbly around the front nine to turn in one under par, only to find himself three down in the match! After more great golf on the back nine, the match finished at the 15th hole with Brent completing the 15 holes around five under par.

The top eight available players from the stroke play championships in each grade qualified for the matchplay. In B grade, Col Wood once again displayed his match play expertise to defeat Jim Warren in a close match 2&1. In C grade, Trent Cowan confirmed his potential by defeating C Grade stroke play champion, Cory Howe at the 14th.

Both winners and runners up in all grades receive prizes at the Men’s Annual Presentation night on Saturday 3rd December.

Thanks and congratulations to everyone who played in the Match play Championships! After postponement of the final round of the stroke play championships the match play draw had to be compressed. All players showed tremendous cooperation during the event to allow completion on time.
