2016 MENS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2016 Men’s Singles Championships concluded on Saturday 5TH November with relatively new member, Brent White, proving too strong over four tough rounds. The fourth round had to be postponed for two weeks after dangerous weather conditions on the scheduled final day made it impossible to play. Unfortunately, the delayed finish of the tournament meant some contenders were not able to complete the event. Brent played solid golf over the four rounds in very windy conditions to return a great 72 hole total of 299. Brent’s main challenger for the championship was the evergreen senior golfer, Bob Luke who battled a niggling ailment over the last two rounds and still recorded an excellent total of 305. Congratulations to both players on their great golf throughout the Championships. Many of the spectators following the final group that included junior Beau Willett, were very pleased to comment on the outstanding sportsmanship displayed by the whole group. Bob was awarded the Senior Championship as determined by the conditions of play whilst Beau finished just behind the top two with 308 to win the Junior Championship.
We had many great performers over the grades for the four rounds including Super Senior Champion Bob Smith, who returned a score of 338 to back up last year’s win. The B grade competition saw Mark Foss (344) defeating Col Wood by seven shots. In C grade, Cory Howe played strongly, giving him a four round total of 370 to defeat Simon Morony who finished on 376.
It was great to see promising juniors, Dylan Moore (Junior r/u), Noah Miller (B grade nett) and Nathan Spierings (B grade nett r/u) in the prize list. Mark Merlino returned a 72 hole nett total of 289 to win the A grade nett.
The Committee would like to thank the greens staff for presenting the course in excellent condition over the four rounds and the proshop staff for once again proving they are the best starters in the business.
