Robbie Hogan wins the big double
Toukley trainee pro, Robbie Hogan confirmed his potential with four outstanding rounds at the difficult Indooroopilly layout to win the 2016 Queensland PGA Trainee Championships by a convincing four strokes.
In round three, Robbie returned a sensational six under 66 to take a three shot lead into the final round. In the final round, Robbie cruised around the front nine one under par to reach five under for the tournament. Robbie’s nearest rival, Jacob Boyce from Caboolture, eagled the 9th hole to close within two shots. Robbie made crucial pars under extreme pressure on the 15th, 16th and 17th as his main pursuer dropped shots resulting in a well-deserved relaxed walk up 18 to an impressive four shot victory. His final tally was 72, 74, 66 and 74 = 286 (-2). Fellow Toukley trainee, Pat Joseph also had an excellent tournament to finish on 301 and pick up a cheque for 20th place.
The win in Queensland gave Robbie the big double after winning the NSW PGA trainee championship at Riverside Oaks earlier in the year. Hopefully, sponsors will recognize Robbie’s achievements with some invites into other tournaments.
Congratulations to Robbie on another outstanding performance!
