Toukley trainee professionals, Pat Joseph and Robbie Hogan, confirmed their potential with excellent performances during 28th annual Rich River Trainee Classic at the picturesque East course in Moama on the Victorian Border. Over 140 of Australia’s leading young golfers started in the prestigious event with Curlewis (Vic.) trainee, Deyen Lawson being the eventual winner, carding a brilliant 277 (11 under) for the 72 holes.

Robbie opened the event with a great 68 and followed up with rounds of 76, 72 and 75 to finish tied 6th on 291 (3 over).   Pat had rounds of 72, 75, 76 and 72 to tie for 16th on 295 (7 over). Pat’s highlight of the event was his final round, reaching 5 under after 12 holes, but struggled on the difficult closing stretch to finish with a creditable even par 72.  Former Toukley juniors, now Trainees at other clubs, Jarrod Hayes and Jason Butt found the testing Moama layout very tough, missing the cut after 36 holes.

Both Robbie and Pat picked up nice cheques for their efforts and look to be on track to successfully follow Dimi Papadatos and Mitch Brown into the ranks of touring professionals.
